ILIA Crimson & Clover

I’m passionate about natural beauty and do not believe we have to sacrifice quality and ethics when it comes to looking great.  There are some pretty special makeup, skincare and haircare products that perform far better and look just as good as the mainstream synthetic, unethical brands that fill the shelves of every supermarket and chemist. This article features the fabulous Crimson & Clover Tinted Lip Conditioner by ILIA.

When is comes to lipstick we have to be even more careful that it doesn’t contain harmful ingredients because we ingest it when we lick our lips. 

Unfortunately many lipsticks contain ingredients such as crushed insects (usually used for the colour pigment) and lead, as you can see from the chart below. Lead can accumulate in the body over time and be distributed in the brain, liver, kidneys and bones causing an array of health issues.  These results were from a study conducted in 2012:

So onto the lovely ILIA Crimson & Clover which doesn’t contain any nasty ingredients. ILIA is an organic brand with some vibrant shades of lip colour and many other beautiful products in the range. Crimson & Clover has become a staple in my makeup case. It creates an intense colour and is lovely when worn with simple eye makeup. It lasts really well and even when it fades it stays on the lips as a stain, so you always look made-up even after drinking and eating. I also use it with a lighter shade to create a light pink. If I want it to be a sharp intense colour I use it with Lavera Soft Lipliner Red 03. ILIA is the best brand of natural lipstick I have found.

In the past it was difficult to find brands that could compete with the mainstream ranges and produce intense colours that lasted. This is certainly not the case anymore. My next beauty post will be about the eyeshadow pallet by Lilly Lolo which is a great buy and one I use everyday. There is so much choice now so there’s no excuse for wearing toxic ingredients.

ILIA have managed to produce a high end range with smart packaging to match that easily competes with the likes of Nars and Lancôme. I like my makeup packaging to look polished. Just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it has to look earthy and like it’s just come out the ground.
